D-Day Reflections
For those of us who relate to the commando, airborne and special forces family of the UK & Allied Nations, it is a timely opportunity to consider the origins of our units and the forbearers of our various regimental reputations as warrior elites. It is also provides a moment for us to remember the bravery of the young men and women who have protected that freedom over the successive eight decades. The heroes of our age!
These eighty years of heritage and history, of leaders and legends, of actions and anecdotes, hardship and heroism, are exactly what the ICHT seeks to PROTECT, PRESERVE, PRESENT AND PROMOTE to ensure the story is available to current and future generations from all walks of life and every corner of the world.
The proposed International Commando Heritage Centre (ICHC) is to be established close to the original Commando Basic Training Centre (CBTC) at Achnacarry, Scotland. This and rugged mountains of Lochaber, were the training grounds for the Commandos of WW2. From earliest days, members of Allied Nations; Norway, Belgium, France, Holland, Poland and Denmark, including elements of the USMC and the 1st US Rangers, were subjected to the most challenging and arduous military training of the time, in order to prepare them for dangerous missions and ultimately the insertions of D-1 and the landings of D-Day.
Those high training standards, that created these elite forces are maintained to this day in Commando and Specialist training facilities around the world and produce the same warriors of the modern Allied Military units.

Vision
The development of the INTERNATIONAL COMMANDO HERITAGE CENTRE, as with any other mission requires preparatory work, particularly in relation to planning. That is where we are now. Our selected team of architects, structural, electrical, mechanical engineers, environmental and landscape consultants have been hard at work to produce the required specifications for the development, much of it in the corportate belief in the importance of this project to the military and local communities and the future generations.
